LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize The LOEWE FOUNDATION launched its annual Craft Prize in 2016 to showcase and celebrate newness, excellence, and artistic merit in the development of contemporary craft, including ceramics, jewellery, textiles, woodwork, glass, metalwork, furniture, papercraft and lacquer. It is open to any professional artisan aged over 18 and the submitted work must combine innovative application of craft and original artistic concept. Accompanying a physical exhibition at The Seoul Museum of Craft Art (SeMoCA) is this digital exhibition. Reflecting LOEWE’s ongoing search for solutions that put sustainability at the forefront, the digital exhibition has been designed against a dark background. This native dark mode reduces digital strain, saves energy, and draws the viewers eyes to the artistic piece. In addition to the works, the LOEWE FOUNDATION invited six emerging writers to share a creative response to the 30 finalist works, highlighting each work’s design, craftsmanship, and intrinsic beauty. These short entries are insightful, humorous, and poetic. By combining these two art forms, the LOEWE FOUNDATION reasserts its longstanding commitment to creativity in all forms and disciplines.
The fifth LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize exhibition is on display at the Seoul Museum of Craft Art (SeMoCA), South Korea, from 1 to 31 July 2022. Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Closed every Monday Free entrance LOEWE FOUNDATION The LOEWE FOUNDATION was established as a private cultural foundation in 1988 by Enrique Loewe Lynch, a fourth-generation member of LOEWE’s founding family, with the purpose of supporting design and craftsmanship. Today, under the direction of his daughter Sheila Loewe, the foundation continues to promote creativity, support education programmes and safeguard heritage in the fields of poetry, dance, photography, art and craft. The LOEWE FOUNDATION was awarded the Gold Medal for Merit in the Fine Arts, the highest honour granted by the Spanish government, in 2002. loewe.com blogfundacionloewe.es @loewefoundation LOEWE Founded in 1846 in Madrid, LOEWE began as a cooperative of leather artisans, and has been defined by an obsessive focus on craft with an unmatched expertise ever since. The House’s atelier has long valued artisanal techniques in its approach to design and manufacture, combining accumulated craft knowledge with new technologies to produce truly modern objects of desire. These core values are reflected in LOEWE’s belief in the importance of craft in today’s culture and the revival of poignant art and historical references to inspire collections. The house’s ongoing support of contemporary art, craft and culture around the world includes the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize, the renowned international award for contemporary craft, founded in 2016.
