A creative response to Cornish Wall by Sarah Thomas

We were told that the Earth has a chest and a throat and to look for an expression that echoed this place. We found it in what we thought was wood but then we saw the green stippling. It curved and curved. We knew it was speaking. We were not surprised. Our cells met and exchanged knowledge, in their way.

Guided by a deep spiritual connection to his Xhosa ancestors, cultivated while growing up on a farm and caring for his father’s cattle herd, Andile Dyalvane’s preferred medium is clay or umhlaba, meaning ‘mother earth’. He completed a National Diploma in Art and Design at Sivuyile Technical College in Gugulethu, Cape Town, and a National Diploma in Ceramic Design. He is a teacher and a member of the International Academy of Ceramics and his work has been included in museum shows and collections around the globe.
